Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine will not participate in tomorrow’s U.S.-Russia talks, regardless of any invitations. Speaking exclusively to Politico, Zelensky stated, “Even if I am asked, Ukraine will not take part in these negotiations.”
Zelensky’s comments come as high-level discussions between Washington and Moscow are set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Despite speculation linking his international visits to the talks, the Ukrainian president made it clear that his travel schedule and the ongoing negotiations in the Middle East are unrelated.
“We have no plans to be involved in any talks between the U.S. and Russia at this stage,” Zelensky emphasized, reiterating Ukraine’s position on diplomatic matters related to the ongoing conflict.
The U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia are expected to focus on security and geopolitical issues, with both nations aiming to address broader tensions. However, Ukraine’s absence from these discussions highlights the country’s insistence on having direct involvement in peace negotiations, as opposed to being sidelined in diplomatic talks.
