Zelenskyy Stresses Need for Security Guarantees in Any Trump-Led Ukraine Peace Plan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asserted that any peace proposal put forth by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine must not only facilitate an immediate cessation of hostilities but also include robust mechanisms to prevent future Russian aggression.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine seeks to avoid the mistakes of previous peace agreements, which failed to deter Moscow’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. He underscored the necessity of enforceable security guarantees, stating that merely freezing the conflict without addressing the root causes of aggression would only pave the way for renewed hostilities.

Zelenskyy’s remarks highlight Ukraine’s demand for a comprehensive and lasting resolution rather than a temporary settlement that could leave the country vulnerable to future attacks. His comments come amid ongoing discussions about potential diplomatic efforts to end the war while ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
